|Rescue Me ID: 17-05-24-00417CAPTAIN (male)|
Captain is a unique mix of Border Collie and Saint Bernard, weighing in at 52 pounds. Home Fur Good initially rescued this six-year-old gentleman from the county shelter in November. Captain was adopted, and has returned after spending a few months in a home where his personality started to show, and now his perfect family can be found. He lived with a man and a woman, and he was great with both of them and especially loving toward the man. Captain became protective of his family, and he would lunge and growl at strangers, especially men. He also has a strong prey drive. The perfect scenario for Captain would be a home where there are not a lot of strangers or visitors stopping by. He will also need a home without children. In a calm environment, he just goes with the flow, and he calmly goes about his day. Captain does have a playful side; when he lets his guard down and he is comfortable, he allows himself to be a puppy again. He is buddies with shelter-mate Spot; they wrestle, play chase, and go on great walks together. The adoption fee is $150 and includes spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipping, and a free wellness visit with our vet. Our adoption hours are Thursday-Saturday from 11:00 am-4:00 pm, and Mondays by appointment, and we are located at 10220 N. 32nd Street (just south of Shea Blvd.) in Phoenix. Out-of-state adoptions to surrounding states are possible; however, an in-person introduction with us and our dogs is mandatory. We offer a low-cost vaccine clinic on Sundays from 11:00 am-2:30 pm, and a low-cost dental clinic on Wednesdays by appointment. Visit our website at www.homefurgood.org for more information. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-09-21-00442Frankie (male)|
Frankie is an approximately 4.5 year old American Bulldog and Saint Bernard mix. He came to us after being adopted out of a shelter by a person who was not able to handle his needs. Frankie, as best we can tell, likely spent the first 2 years or so of his life as a backyard dog and had no contact with other dogs. As a result, Frankie was extremely afraid of the actions of other dogs because he no way to interpret them. Since he is about 90 pounds of dog, that fear made for a potentially hazardous situation. 2 years later with a lot of carefully supervised and progressive dog interaction, Frankie has reached a point where he interacts well with female dogs smaller than himself that are calm in temperament especially upon meeting him the first time. Frankie loves people however, and other than the offhand chance of him unintentionally knocking down a small child, we have no reason to believe he has any human restrictions. An ideal home for Frankie, who is of moderate energy level, would be one where he got to go for walks, had the run of the house and yard, and was allowed to curl up with you for quiet time. The most risk free scenario for Frankie would be a home with no other dogs or cats, he does not like cats, but he also does like smaller female dogs he has met before. A carefully supervised meeting with any existing dogs in your home is mandatory, but you should not pass up the opportunity to meet this big, beautiful, gentle boy. Frankie is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and health checked. To meet Frankie, email us at the link below. (Less)

Saint Bernard Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Saint Bernard is an enormous, friendly and trustworthy dog. Saint Bernards are very patient with children and are extremely devoted to their people. It is important that Saint Bernards are thoroughly trained and socialized as puppies so that they are manageable as adults. Despite their huge size, Saint Bernards can live in an apartment if they get enough exercise.
