Rescue Me ID: 16-05-20-00522Hildi (female)

Saint Bernard    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hildi is a 6.5 year old St. Bernard. She is spayed, up to date on shots, and mirco chipped. Hildi is petite for a St. Bernard @ only 115lb, she has a fairly dry mouth for a saint as well. Hildi is VERY affectionate with her people! she is always ready for a belly scratch and generally has a very sweet temperament. Hildi seems to attach easier to men, she first lived with an older gentleman for the first 4 years of her life before he was moved to a nursing home and she was adopted by a young family who has had her for the past 2.5 years but is now finding it very hard to meet Hildi's needs with the addition of elderly parents and a new baby ... (Read More)in the house. Hildi has had limited exposure to young children, she has never shown any aggression but does seem to be nervous around small children, she gives the new baby in the house a fairly wide berth. Hildi is a 'people dog'! she loves to be with and near the people in the house, and loves to snuggle in bed when allowed. When Hildi came to live with the new young family it was clear that she had some serious anxiety when it came to other dogs, even with training and exposure this has not improved, and has evolved into 'dog aggression' when she was attacked by a neighborhood German Shepard and bit. Due to this aggression, her current owners have allowed her very little interaction with other dogs and believe she would be best in a home where she is the only dog, although an experienced dog owner may be able to work with her. Hildi is very well behaved in the house! knows her basic commands and is eager to please her humans! She is a beautiful dog with classic St. Bernard tri-color markings. She is looking for a quiet loving home. (Less)

We want to introduce you officially to Samson & Gideon. They are St. Bernard puppies with a date of birth of 2/14/16. They came to us a while back and were Parvo positive. We were able to send them out to quarantine and work diligently with the guidance of the vet for fluids, antibiotics, etc., and were able to pull them through. They have been testing negative for Parvo for over a week now. They are able to go home with the right set of conditions. Please remember St. Bernard's are very large dogs which require space and lots of grooming. If you are interested in one of these two beauties please contact us so we can discuss the ... (Read More)circumstances under which they will be allowed to go to their new home. They are now happy, healthy pups but because of having had Parvo have some guidelines that have to be followed for a few months. They WILL NOT be adopted into a home with any young animals currently in the home and they WILL NOT be adopted into any home with a dog that does not have current vaccinations. NO EXCEPTIONS. (Less)

lnteresting Saint Bernard Trivia Low-Cost Iowa Spay & Neuter Clinics
Saint Bernard dogs have rescued thousands of people from freezing to death in snowstorms and avalanches. Supposedly, Saint Bernards used to wear small casks of brandy intended to warm the people they were sent to rescue. The monks of St. Bernard Hospice deny this having ever been the case.
