Rescue Me ID: 14-08-24-00355Jones (male)

Saint Bernard    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jones is a 7 year old, shorthair, purebred Saint Bernard. He weighs 175 pounds. Like most Saints, he is a gentle giant. He wants to do two things - sleep, and be near you. Jones is very mellow and well behaved, unless he sees another dog. He is not good with other dogs. If you plan on walking him in an area where he might see another dog, you'll need to be very strong to handle him pulling and lunging. (When not around other dogs, he walks quietly beside you on the leash and does not pull.) Jones is always hot and needs a home with air conditioning. He is not an athlete and can only handle short walks (about 15 minutes). He does not jog or ... (Read More)run. Jones knows all his commands, but you will rarely need to use them. He is very well behaved. He does not jump up on people, he does not lick faces, he does not damage furniture or chew things. He just likes to be around his people, and to have his tummy scratched. Jones currently lives with a cat, but it took us almost two months to get him to stop chasing her. They are friends now, but that was a stressful experience and I assume if he lived with a new cat that you would have to train him all over again. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-14-00626Astra (female)

Saint Bernard    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello this is Astra, she is ~8 years old. She needs to find a new home. Before she lived with us we rescued her from the Oregon St. Bernard rescue. We have three children and all play and watch and enjoy Astra all the time. Over these last five years there has been some instances of her un prevoked nipping of neighborhood kids. And she is an alpha female and has gone after some other dogs walking buy and while on leash. We try to keep her as sheltered as best we can. In the last year she has made some great strides in regards to new people and other people visiting our house. But this weekend while some visiting kids were playing in the ... (Read More)backyard she again unprovoked nipped one of the girls in the leg. I have worked so long and so hard with her to bring her to where she is today, but it pains me going forward have to find a new home for her. If you know of any adult candidates with no children, and minimum exposure to other animals, who love St. Bernard's as much as we do, have them contact me. Again it is something we do not want to do, but we cannot take the risk of her biting someone else. This decision is very hard for our family due that we love her very much. (Less)
