Well my eyes tell it all-and if I could talk what a story I could share! I'm the latest edition to Pita's Pals Rescue and decompressing after a long 3 years tied to a chain outdoors with no room to run or be a dog. Finally a good Samaritan reported my owners and animal control got me out. Since I was in bad shape, I needed rescue to step in. Along comes my mom and her friend and I'm now transforming on 2 acres with 7 fur friends and 7 human kids. I am very thin but gaining daily in weight & in muscle. Mom says I will be about 52 lbs, 3 years old, a St. Bernard/Golden Retriever mix, and a good size I guess. I have skin issues from the ... (Read More)neglect, but am the best meds to treat this and looking forward to be furry again-nothing contagious just irritating to me but I take it all in stride! Mom says in two weeks things will be looking upward in every way for me. I take my meds & fish oil and goats milk well and just glad to roam free. I'm great in a crate, very laid back , have apparently beautiful eyes and soul-I hope so! I am getting along with all the dogs -they love me or maybe I just smell a bit from all this dermmagic shampoo-not sure but noone has barked at me so far and I feel a lot better. I am heartworm negative which is a miracle in itself and on a preventative. I'm neutered so that's good also. The kids call me gentle Charlie because I guess I'm everyone's friend submissive and kind. Even though I'm not ready to leave here yet for a few weeks, I'd love to meet you and your family. One day I am going to make an awesome pet. Don't worry I love affection and have forgiven the past. I'm living for today which is great. 25% of adopt fee has been donated by a good Samaritan, already applied. Call mom for more info and an application~Pita's Pals Canine Rescue, Julie (210)708-7109.     My name is Hank and I am a 4(ish) year old St. Bernard mix. I am looking for the love of my life to share a forever home with. I've been hurt in the past by a previous relationship and now, thanks to High Plains P.A.W., I am healed and ready to love again. My likes include snuggling, being wherever you are, sleeping, relaxing in my crate, walking or jogging on a leash (gotta keep up my fitness), meeting new people and dogs, carrying my soft toys around and bringing a smile to your face. My dislikes include being outside for any long period of time (I am not good with the heat) and not getting at least 15 hours of sleep per day. Did I ... (Read More)mention that I am house trained, crate trained, good on a leash, heartworm negative, neutered, available to relocate anywhere and incredibly handsome?? I've been told that I am 'the total package.' I may have a deep bark but really I am just a big boy with a gentle soul looking for that special someone to love and love me back. lnteresting Saint Bernard Trivia Low-Cost Texas Spay & Neuter Clinics
Saint Bernard dogs have rescued thousands of people from freezing to death in snowstorms and avalanches. Saint Bernards were bred by a monk to be able to rescue Alpine travelers. A Saint Bernard can track and find a person buried under an avalanche of snow. Supposedly, Saint Bernards used to wear small casks of brandy intended to warm the people they were sent to rescue. The monks of St. Bernard Hospice deny this having ever been the case.
