Saint Bernard dogs have rescued thousands of people from freezing to death in snowstorms and avalanches. Saint Bernards were bred by a monk to be able to rescue Alpine travelers. A Saint Bernard can track and find a person buried under an avalanche of snow. Saint Bernards can reverse hypothermia in a freezing person by laying down next to him or her and transferring their body heat to the person.
